Product Description

When romance novelist Caroline Edwards flees her home, terrorized by an obsessive stalker, she hides in the outskirts of Walkers Ridge, Montana. When she meets her charismatic new landlord, more than the inspiration for her next sexy hero stirs to life.

Coddling a city slicker unaccustomed to upcoming Montana winter isn't the way Jamie Overton plans on spending his time, but Caroline’s fear arouses his protective and professional instincts. Will the passion between them be enough to keep this pair warm during the harsh storms they need to endure or will their secrets tear them apart?

Caroline stood in the window and watched the man and his dog. Jamie’s black hair glistened wet from the snow. The dog was huge and playful, making Jamie’s job more fun if not more efficient. As much as she hated to admit it, she was relieved to see him return. She wasn’t comfortable with the silence when she watched him drive away.

Letting the lace curtains fall back into place, she went to the kitchen. As she settled into the routine of making a meal, she let her thoughts run. The nightmare of waking up to find someone she trusted turn into a threat was an event that colored every aspect of her life.

Putting her belongings into storage and fleeing was a defensive move. She didn’t have the means to move a household of furnishings and she needed to be as mobile as possible.

She diced vegetables while her mind continued its journey. How did he find her? Did he know she was here or was he long gone to search for her in a different place? Did he know where she was or was he long gone to search for her in a different place? Did she dare go into town? Should she contact the authorities or would doing so only call attention to her presence here?

Potatoes joined the veggies and the home baked bread, saved by Jamie earlier, was laid out on the dining room table. The dog barked and Jamie’s laughter answered. With a pitcher of milk in hand, she went to the front door. “Jamie? I made dinner, if you’re hungry. I know it’s early, but I figured you’d worked up an appetite.”

“Hungry?” Jamie laughed, as he mounted the steps. “I’m starved.” He stepped inside and sniffed the air appreciatively. “It smells good.”

He hung up his coat on the doorknob and brushed down the dog before urging him into the house. She saw a snapshot of what life with a partner beside her might be like. His strength was apparent. Working the land sculpted the muscles and defined the man. He would protect her. He would keep her safe. He gave her a sense of well being. This is how he made her feel simply by walking into the door after shoveling the walk, dog at his side.

Jamie shook the snow from his hair, glanced at Caroline and stopped short when he met her gaze. The desire she saw flare in his eyes made her stomach lurch. This man would protect her from others, but who would protect her from him?
