Product Description

Dr. Nancy St. John has a well-kept, twenty-year-old secret.

When Nancy was a high school senior, her socialite mother and henpecked father banished her from her home in Santa Monica, California, because of her pregnancy. Nancy left her friends, her school, and her boyfriend, Skip, to live with her spinster aunt in Chicago until she gave birth to a girl. Angry and hurt, Nancy broke all ties with her past.

Heartbroken, Nancy concentrates on her work and avoids intimate relationships. She hides her feelings. Hope, the daughter Nancy gave up for adoption twenty years earlier, finds her. A bond blossoms between them but is challenged by Hope’s leukemia. Hope needs a bone marrow transplant, but she has a rare blood type. Nancy is not a match. She is determined to find Skip, Hope’s biological father, who never knew about Nancy’s pregnancy or why she disappeared so mysteriously.

The following week, Nancy picked up the lockets from the jewelry store and held them close to her heart as she toddled home from the bus stop. After dinner, she sat with her aunt at the kitchen table.

"You're so good to me, I almost hate to ask a favor, but I have to." Tears threatened to blur her vision of her aunt. She wiped her eyes and took a deep breath. "Since you know some of the nurses in the maternity ward, can you get me a photo of my baby after it's born?"

Her aunt's brow furrowed. "I'm sorry, darling, but it's against regulations."

Nancy took the velvet jewelry boxes from her pocket and placed them on the table. She opened them and showed her aunt the inscription. "I want my baby to have this locket. The other one is for me. I want to put the baby's picture in mine."

Her aunt squeezed her hand. "I can't make any promises. There are rules and procedures."

"It's a private adoption. Can't they make an exception? Ask the adoptive parents. Please?" She had stooped to begging but didn't care.

Aunt Dot paused, her shoulders drooped. "I'll do what I can."

Nancy caught a hiccup of a sob before it escaped. "Thank you."

Their tears flowed unchecked as they embraced.

God has a plan for your life.If only Nancy believed it. What about her life? Did God have a plan for her too?
