The writing career of Kaarina Brooks—writing romance as Karen Rossi—really took off after her retirement from teaching. Kaarina emigrated from Finland as a child with her parents and older sister. Since childhood, writing and art have played a huge part in her life, and the juvenilia that she and her sister wrote together is still tucked in her filing cabinet drawer, waiting for…maybe a second kick at the can? Her short stories, articles and poetry have appeared in magazines, e-zines, literary journals and anthologies.
Kaarina often incorporates the images of Finland— brilliant blue lakes, endless summer nights and the sauna—in her writing. Thus the play of light and darkness, as well as splashes of water, are found in many of stories. Kaarina is a grandmother lives with her husband in a condo with a great view of farmlands and far-away hills. She is a member of RWA and of Toronto Romance Writers, as well as the Canadian Society for Children's Authors, Artists and Performers.
