In high school, Charlotte Windham went through a typical ugly duckling phase - glasses and all, while harboring a crush on Garrett Stephens, the school's athletic heartthrob.

Fifteen years later, Charlotte and Garrett have a chance encounter at a Los Angeles restaurant. However, this time around, Charlotte has leveled the playing field. She’s a bestselling novelist and no longer “Glasses,” the humiliating nickname Garrett gave her. She’s a catch and, thanks to corrective eye surgery, it’s not just her eyes that see better…so does her heart!

Garrett hasn’t fared poorly either, transforming from teen heartbreaker to adult lothario and is now a successful professional golfer suffering from a possible career-ending injury.

Can Charlotte forgive Garrett for his past ways, and more recent Don Juan lifestyle? Will she even want to? And, can Garrett change his ways for a second chance with Charlotte, who may just be perfect for him?

Excerpt

I stand but hesitate when I see Tamika's disapproving look. Fi notices as well. "It's okay, T. I got this," she says, motioning for me to follow her back. When we get to her small office, she closes the door and gestures for me to sit on a red vinyl chair, circa 1972. She stands in front of me, leaning against the desk, and crosses her arms in front of her chest. "Spill!"

"Where should I start?"

"At the beginning." She walks around to her chair behind the desk and pulls out a yellow legal pad.

For the next half hour, I go over my encounter with Garrett, from the moment we bumped into each other and he didn't recognize me, to the embarrassment of being called 'Glasses.'

Fi takes notes furiously on her pad and grins, nods, and cringes at all the appropriate times. When I finish, she puts her pen down and asks, "Do you want the 'best friend experience' or the 'brilliant legal mind experience'?"

I can't help but laugh. "Are they mutually exclusive?"

"They are," she says nodding.

"Okay. I want the best friend experience."

She rushes around from behind the desk, wraps her arms around me soothingly. "I'm so sorry, hon. That sounds just awful. Let's go get margaritas tomorrow and drown our sorrows in tequila and lime wedges."

"Thanks, Fi. You're the best."

"Anytime," she says, rubbing my back. She pulls away and walks around to the back of her desk. She sits down and puts the legal pad to the side. I can't help but notice the writing scrawled across it.

"Just for kicks, what would you have said if I had asked for the 'brilliant legal mind experience'?"

"You sure you want to know?" Her lips pull into a grim line. Honestly, I'm not sure I do want to know, but curiosity gets the better of me.

"Lay it on me," I say.

"You need to get laid. Not the kind of bland, missionary style sex you had with Alex. You need hot heat, sweating up the sheets, crazy animal sex."

I bust out laughing. "That's your brilliant legal advice. Crazy animal sex?"

"Yes. That's my brilliant legal advice," she says with complete seriousness. "Listen, hon, it's been a year since that insecure jerk Keane dumped you. I have no doubt it's been even longer since you've, well, you know." She wags her eyebrows up and down. "Before that, you only seriously dated Travis the cheater and Alex who, let's face it, despite being completely gonzo for you, was a cold fish and a bore. It's time to stop comparing every man to this fantasy of Garrett Stephens and just do it with him to get it out of your system. He asked you out for Saturday night. Go! Enjoy!"

"I don't compare every man to Garrett," I snap at her.

"Don't you?" she asks, looking down at me sternly.

"I'm offended you even suggested that." She looks at me, her sharp eyes boring into me, like she can read my every thought and knows I'm full of it. I imagine this is how she bears down on witnesses on the stand. I don't like being on the receiving end of that look.

"Even if that's true," I start and she nods her head, "and I'm not conceding it is." I point my finger at her. "Even if he did mean to ask me out, there's no way it's a good idea. He's a total player. It would only be one night of fun and I don't think I could get over that kind of hurt."

"Then you need to get over it now. Sorry for the tough love, hon, but you need to move past the fantasy of this man and find someone passionate and amazing who is deserving to love you for all of the great things you have to offer including your messed-up childhood and your incredible success today."

  1. Once again, Lisa has written an engaging story... 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

that we can all probably relate to in some way. Charlotte is a young girl, a very plain girl, who has a major crush on a very cute boy in high school. And.... she's his tutor. Now that's challenging, to be that close to the guy you dream about and he doesn't even know you are alive, in that kind of way, anyway. Haven't we all been there at some point in our lives?

Links is a fun, delightful story that I devoured on my vacation. It is the perfect get-away book that leaves you with a good feeling. Thank you, Lisa, for another very entertaining story!

  2. Ms. Becker is a wonderful author... 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

Links by Lisa Becker is another wonderful book. Ms. Becker is a wonderful author that can transport you into her stories, that once you leave you just want to hop right back into it to keep on living with the amazing characters.

Speaking of amazing characters, I felt like I was best friends with both Garrett Stephens and Charlotte Windham. Granted I probably felt more like a best friend to Charlotte more than Garrett but seeing from both sides of their perspective in this book made it seem like anyone could be friends with both of them.

I am giving this book a five-star review because it was totally awesome and I am still having a little bit of a book hangover over as it was that good.
Links by Lisa Becker was such an awesome book and I can’t wait to read another book by Ms. Becker. She is an outstanding author and an even better storyteller that makes you, at least for me, feel like you are a part of the book and hanging out with her characters.

  3. This was one of the best “chase’s” I have read in quite a while. 4 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

Lisa Becker is a new to me author and this was definitely a book that called to me because of the synopsis.

This was one of the best “chase’s” I have read in quite a while, Garrett goes all out to prove to Charley that he is a changed man. From establishing a friendship to months of pursuit, Lisa Becker regales the reader with a man desperate to catch the only woman that has made him want more. As much as Garrett irked me in the first instance, he was a hormonal teen but the adult Garrett was a man that will have many women swooning. I loved that Charlotte stuck to her guns even though it was emotionally painful for her, but when these two finally let those lines blur I was jumping up and down.

As I said above, this was a real feel good read, one that had me smiling from ear to ear and one that left me with the warm and fuzzies. You cannot ask more from a romance. Loved it and I will definitely be checking out other books by this author.

  4. I HAVE NEVER READ ANYTHING BY LISA BECKER BEFORE AND I AM SO GLAD I DIDI 5 Star Review

I HAVE NEVER READ ANYTHING BY LISA BECKER BEFORE AND I AM SO GLAD I DID. I REALLY ENJOYED LINKS. IT WAS A FAST READ FOR ME AND I LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS ESPECIALLY CHARLOTTE.

THE AUTHOR DID A GREAT JOB WITH THE CHARACTERS IN THE STORY. I ENJOYED HER WRITING ALOT. SHE DRAWS YOU INTO THE STORY WITH HER WORDS AND CHARACTERS. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE PART OF THE STORY AND UNDERSTAND THE CHARACTERS' FEELINGS. I REALLY CAN RELATE TO CHARLOTTE AND I UNDERSTOOD HER. I UNDERSTOOD HOW SHE FELT AND WHAT HIGH SCHOOL WAS LIKE FOR HER. SHE IS DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THE BOOK. GARRETT WAS VERY HOT AND HE DID ALOT OF GROWING UP WHICH MADE HIM A BETTER PERSON.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD ROMANCE, I RECOMMEND YOU READ LINKS. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING MORE OF LISA BECKER'S BOOKS. SHE DID NOT DISAPPOINT ME.

  5. ... a very sweet and easy summer read ... 4 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

I am finding that I really do like books that we get both of the main characters' viewpoints, chapter by chapter, and this fits into that perfectly.

Overall it was a very sweet and easy summer read. It had a little bit of sex, but not a ton. It really got into a lot of situations, and I feel like Charlotte was pretty realistic in how she handled it all. I loved when she got to get back at a college frenemy, as well as Chapter 48, and the very last chapter. If you're looking for a perfect summer read, this is one you should pick up.

  6. ... I was very impressed. 4 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

This is my first book that I've read by Lisa Becker and I have to say that I was very impressed. This book came at a good time because I had just read a really ANGSTY book and this was just the book I needed to get over my hangover.

I read the synopsis, which I try not to do often because I like to go into the book completely blind. I love the unknown and just seeing where the book takes me but in this case I read it ahead of time and thought, I HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK. It's about a former nerd becoming uber successful and connecting with the super popular, sexy high school crush. AHHHHHH it gave me all the feels.

I am rating this book 4 stars because I was able to read the book very quickly and it was a fun, light read. I look forward to reading more books by Lisa Becker.

  7. 5 Stars! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

The story starts with a prologue back in 1999 when 14 year old high school student Charlotte was tutoring twins Garrett and Marcus. She was very good friends with their sister Lindsay but had a secret crush on Garrett. We then move forward to the present day when they bump into each other in a restaurant. Charlotte is now a famous author and Garrett is an injured professional golfer, but Charlotte has carried a torch for Garrett all these years.

Garrett brings a takeaway a few days later and they catch up on news. Their paths cross again when Lindsay invites Charlotte for a weekend away at the family cabin. They enjoy each other’s company and agree to hang out as friends!

I’ll leave you to guess where this is heading.

  8. ... I adored them and was cheering for them ... 4 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

The author wrote this pair so that I adored them and was cheering for them to get past the hang-ups to something special. Refreshingly, Links allows this pair plenty of time together in platonic activities and really illustrates their deepening friendship balanced with their equally depending interest and attraction. It was worth it to get to that point in the bedroom when its two people who know each other well and it means something.

Incidentally, yes, Garrett is a golf pro, but for those who are not into golf or know little about it, this will not be an issue as the story is mostly about the characters and their romance. Truthfully, there is more focus on Charlotte’s career and interests than Garrett’s- and trust me booklovers can relate.

All in all, this was a slightly spicy gently paced romance that I can happily recommend to Contemporary Romance fans.

  9. A game of putt putt was never THIS exciting! 4 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

The antics that transpire, the attraction they both keep fighting, and the masterminded plans from those with their best interests at heart that unfold, will keep you turning pages long into the night. It was hard to watch Charlotte falling back on her previous notions of Garrett without considering everything right in front of her. I know they say people don't change, and in short spans of time, perhaps...but in the longer range, it just might be possible. They aren't the perfect characters, but they may just be perfect for each other... but you best watch out when the sparks fly because they'll definitely leave scorch marks behind.

While I wasn't prepared to like Garrett...because honestly, until we start to see another side of him, I wanted one of the golf course holes to open up a portal and swallow him whole...but he eventually grew on me. Yup. Mr. I'm-a-charmer turned out to be actually charming and not in a get-in-her-pants sorta way. Charlotte, on the other hand, I saw much of myself in from the start, so calling her friend was no hard task. The changes they've been through and continue to navigate, only endear them to you more... including that of the supporting cast of friends and family, especially Fi! All the snark delivered with heart, all the friendship and love to spare, truly made this an enjoyable read.

Recommended read for Contemporary and Second Chance Romance fans that enjoy some humor and heat with their heart.

  10. ... a slow burn towards a wonderful joining ... 4 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2017

Links by Lisa Becker is a standalone romance told in dual POV. The story is a slow burn towards a wonderful joining of two people who will win your heart.

Garrett is determined to win Charlie's heart and the journey their friendship and budding romance takes is sweet and romantic and a pleasure to read. Enjoy!
