Product Description

Gillian Grant, abandoned by her alcoholic parents, is raised by her grandmother in a beach house in California.

As a tribute to Gram’s memory, Gillian restores the house and hires Dusty to help her. Dusty shares the apartment above the garage with Gillian’s childhood friend, Josh.

Gillian and Dusty have nothing in common, except the restoration of the house. Gillian suffers from anorexia and is in denial. While she has a strong faith in God, Dusty is an unbeliever.

Betsy, Gillian’s mother, returns and announces the house was left to her, not Gillian, and she plans to sell it.

Gillian always dreamed of her wedding in her grandmother’s garden overlooking the Pacific. Will there be a wedding? Who will capture Gillian’s heart—stable Josh or can she trust Dusty, a new Christian, who has kept secrets from her? And who holds the deed to the house?

They worked tirelessly stripping the walls. Dusty stood on the ladder while Gillian worked below him. A glob of wet wallpaper fell on her head.

“Hey.” She tried to pull the stuff out of her hair, and only made more of a mess with her gooey gloved hands. She pitched the glob toward Dusty, but he ducked just in time.

He jumped down from the ladder, grabbed more ammunition, and threw it at Gillian. Samantha joined them. “Let’s get him.”

Dusty was quick and missed most of what was thrown his way, but with two against one he got his share.

“Ceasefire!” Dusty held up his hands from behind a cabinet door.

Later they sat on the floor, gunk dripping from head to toe, laughing and eating pizza.  Gillian picked the pepperoni and sausage off her slice and put it on a napkin.

Samantha sipped her Pepsi. “Dusty do you remember last night when I talked about Royal Family Kid’s Camps. I’m passionate about it. You can probably tell by my enthusiasm.” Samantha took another sip of her drink. “What are you passionate about, Dusty?”

“Removing wallpaper.” He smirked.

Gillian looked up to see his grin.

“Nah.” He shrugged. “Surfing, I guess.”

“Well, it’s a given,” Samantha said. “Anything else?”

“I’ll have to think about it.”

“What about you, Gillian?” he asked.

“I have my students, my music... but for now, all I want to do is finish the kitchen,” Gillian said, followed by a laugh.

Samantha and Dusty laughed with her.

Gillian wiped her mouth with a napkin. “I’ve had it. Let’s call it a night.”

Dusty stood. “I’ll help you clean up this mess in the morning.”

After Dusty left and Samantha had gone to bed, Gillian reclined in a hot bubble bath, trying to relieve her sore shoulders and back. She remembered him saying he’d help her clean up the mess in the morning, and she felt confident he would. Maybe he’s more than a surfer. Only time would tell. Although she was exhausted, she grinned at her sense of accomplishment with the kitchen prepared and ready for paint. She closed her eyes and scooted down deeper into the warm bath water and remembered the day -- the way he whistled as he worked, shopping and working together. Today she had discovered a gentle side to him, and she liked it.
