Decisions Book One: Say Goodbye to Yesterday -- EPUB

  • An unwed mother who disregards her childhood faith and gives up her innocence early is about to make a greater mistake that could change her life forever.

When Annabelle Jordan's secrets are discovered by an unforgiving church community, she and her daughters are booted from town. Now without home or future for her growing family, Annabelle, no longer young nor ready to rekindle a once-cherished faith -- is convinced her only hope is to find the girls' father and force the marriage he pledged but later abandoned, or raise her daughters alone which offers no guarantee of security. But when the irresistibly handsome man of faith, Major Carlton Radcliffe, pledged to a family of his own, crosses Annabelle's path, he also steals her heart.

To offer her daughters the future they so desperately need, Annebelle must make the right choice. She could vow never to marry a gain and raise her girls alone providing them with no respectable future; she could continue her journey to the one who rejected her twice already; or she could risk ruining the reputation of the one man who now occupies her heart. What other choice does she have?

EXCERPT

Taking the tip of his fingers, Carlton ever-so-lightly touched the hollow of Annabelle's cheek, then her chin. Both were as soft as he imagined. He couldn't resist tracing the outline of her heart-shaped mouth.

His skin shivered with the palpitations of his heart. As if stung by a hornet, he snatched his hand back and tightened his fingers into a fist. He rearranged his shoulders with a stiff jerk.

Clearing his throat, he lifted the woman out the coach the rest of the way and into his arms. When she fell against his chest as limp as a rag doll, his heart beat faster.

Not only did Carlton enjoy feeling her enchanting womanliness next to him, but her filmy skin akin to satin rubbed against the grating roughness of his prickly-haired arms. Goose bumps rose like stiff pebbles on a sandy beach at low tide. He shivered again. Good gracious! He had to stop, and now.

Too much time had obviously passed since he'd had the pleasure of a woman near him. This was going to be his end if he wasn't careful.

Carlton let out a quiet moan and swallowed again. With his next breath, he took in every inch of the feminine scent floating his way. He finally turned with abruptness.

No one could deny he was a man.

  1. My Take on This Book 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Feb 2013

The year is 1878 and Annabelle Jordan knows that she hasn't made the most prudent choices in her life. Taken in by her uncle after the death of her parents, she finds herself an unwed mother of not one but two girls. She was promised marriage by Captain Sinclair Davies when she had her daughter Suzanna fifteen years ago, but instead sent him away. It has been six years since she had her second daughter Geraldine, by Sinclair, and she is still unwed! After an uproar in her uncle's church about her children she is cast out. Annabelle decides for the sake of her girls she will head west and find Sinclair and marry him. What happens though when she meets Major Carlton Radcliffe on the train ride west? Will she find Sinclair, or does God have something else in store for Annabelle?

"Decisions" was such a unique story. Annabelle Jordan finds herself in a situation that wasn't common during the mid 1800's an unwed mother with two children.I really enjoyed getting to know her character. Her choices were so easy to understand, I could especially see why she would lose her faith in God, but it was interesting to see how God was working in her life even though she didn't realize it! The love she felt for her children was obvious, and I felt her heartbreak at allowing Suzanna to make her own decisions.I always enjoy strong female characters and Annabelle easily fit the bill, but there was also a vulnerability with her character that added depth! Sinclair seemed to be a smooth talker who convinced her that marriage would happen promising twice to marry her. The author slowly allows us to glean Sinclair's true character. Major Carlton Radcliffe was the opposite of Sinclair, he was such a commendable character, who really added to the story. I found his story to be intriguing, even though he carried issues from a failed marriage, he didn't let that dissuade him from his faith in God! I have to say my favorite secondary character in this story had to be six year old Geraldine, she was an absolute gem, who put a smile on my face several times! As a fan of historical fiction it isn't often that I find such a unique story, normally I can figure out what will happen within the first few pages, but Shirley Kiger Connolly kept me wondering what would ultimately happen with this one. Fans of historical fiction will enjoy this one. The faith based messages woven in makes it the perfect choice for anyone looking for a good clean read that will leave you longing for more from this author!

  2. Leave Yesterday Behind and Fall In Love With God 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Feb 2013

Shirley Kiger Connolly is definitely talented! I am so happy I had the chance to review her first book, Say Goodbye To Yesterday, in her new fiction series, Decisions.I loved her her writing style, the characters she created and the emotion she pulls from her readers as they read this novel.

This is not an easy read. It's filled with heart ache, shunning, pasts better left forgotten, and lives that are forever changed when God becomes involved. As a single mom of 2 boys, I'm often looked upon as "different", so I could feel a lot of Annabelle's inner turmoil and pain. But, I loved the way Ms. Connolly portrayed Annabelle's mistakes and wrong doings. It really helped the reader to get a wonderful picture of the young mother.

Major Radcliffe's character was an absolute fantabulous addition to the story. The way Ms. Connolly portrayed his closeness with God was stunning. I absolutely adored his character!

I definitely suggest you check out this story. From heartache to love to forgiveness and redemption, this is a 4 Book worthy novel that will leave the reader breathless. The best part of this story is that it's the first in a series so there's more to come! I am excited to see what Ms. Connolly has in store for her new (and old!) fans with the second book. Take a trip into time, learn to accept your actions and move on with new friends and a fantastic story line!
