Carrie Emeline has a loving and trusting heart. Is it a blessing or a curse? Innocent and naive Carrie Emeline meets the man who can help her conquer her dilemmas…or can he?

Following the marriage, she discovers she's been deceived by her husband who deliberately wheedled himself into her life and her heart with an unthinkable lie.

For four long years, she lives with the deception, and his nightmares. The nightmares lead to drunkenness and violence. It's not until the violence threatens her children that Carrie Emeline wakes up from her own nightmare.  Divorce is unthinkable in her Christian family, but she files the papers, and applies for a restraining order.

Her grief-stricken life has spiraled into a downward tailspin. She feels she is no longer able to forgive and has become judgmental. She heads to Christmas Hotel. Others have found their Christmas miracle at Christmas Hotel, but can she?

"See anything you like," said a booming male voice that surprised her so much she jumped back into the voice's body.

"Oh, Andrew!" she said, when she turned around and saw the face belonging to the voice and body. "You startled me!"

"I see that. Do you always walk at night all alone?"

"I'm not really alone. I'm at home. Look at all the people appreciating the Christmas decorations and getting ideas for Christmas gifts."

"You didn't answer my first question."

"What was that? I forgot, because you scared me to death."

"You look quite normal to me now. The color's returned to your cheeks," he said, and chuckled. "You were inspecting this jewelry store window ever so carefully. I asked if you saw anything you liked."

"Well... I'm female... of course I see things I like."

He looked her up and down. "Yes, I do believe you're a female." Once again he presented her with his crooked grin and wiggled his eyebrows.

"Oh, stop teasing me. Of course I like jewelry. What woman doesn't?"

"If you could buy anything in this window, what would it be?"

She turned back to the jewelry on display. "That's really hard. Everything is beautiful."

"In what month were you born?"

"May."

"That's an emerald... right?"

"Why, yes, it is. Do you know someone born in May?"

"Yes, my mom. She had a beautiful emerald and diamond ring. My dad was born in April, and diamond is the birthstone for April. He gave it to her as an engagement ring and said, 'We're now forever joined.'"

"Aw... that's so sweet. My mom's engagement ring was a sapphire and diamond. She and my dad really couldn't afford rings when they married, so Mr. and Mrs. Bazell, who previously owned Christmas Hotel, gave them their rings. They still wear those rings. They're older than the Civil War. The rings, not my parents."

"The gems are even older than that."

She thought about that and then laughed. "Okay, technicalities! I get it; the gems are probably as old as planet Earth. Let me rephrase my previous statement. The gems were mounted on the ring before the Civil War. Are you always such a stickler for detail?"

"No, not really. I just like teasing you. You're a good sport."

She smiled up at him. "Would you like to walk around the square with me? I love this time of year."

"I do, too, and I would be honored to walk with you, my lady," he said in a British accent, and bent his body into a mock bow. Another couple walking by smiled.

"Okay, Andrew, straighten up. We're being watched."

"Are you too pretty to be looked at?" he jested.

"I just embarrass easily. I don't consider myself pretty."

"You've got to be kidding me. You're not just pretty, you're beautiful! I think you haven't been told that often enough. I suppose you just haven't had the right beau."

"There you go again with the archaic speech. Also, I had a beau in high school."

"Only one beau?"

"Yes," she said warily. "Is there something wrong with that?"

"I'm just surprised, is all."

"I'm picky."
